Aim of the field trip
The purpose of the field visit is for 15-20 group members to experience, first-hand, how geology, soils, topography and landuse influence topographical and geographical survey techniques.
Attendees will map topography and vegetation changes, carry out a geophysical survey over flat grass, using electromagnetic instruments. The field leader will provide data over waterlogged ground. Attendees will bring safety clothing (appropriate footwear, warm clothing, waterproofing) and such food (*no nuts or nut-based products)/drink and medication they require.

DR ALASTAIR RUFFELL QUB. READER, SCHOOL OF NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT (GEOGRAPHY) School of Natural and Built Environment (NBE) has lead a number of trips and talks for the society and this will be an insight into how and why these instruments are important. Alastair teaches students about geophysical surveying techniques and has led research PhD students using many aspects of the survey methods that you will learn about during this trip.
