This trip will outline the geology of the area and the importance of the Causeway Centre in relation to the design of the centre and discuss Mike Simms’ new theory on the how the Causeway formed.
If anyone wants to join in at the Giant’s Causeway – you can meet there at 12.30pm and if you intend parking at the Causeway centre, you will need to book in with the National Trust online. There is a cost for parking at the Causeway if you are not a National Trust member and the car park at Portballintrae is free.
The walk will include a visit to the Lissanduff earthworks and we will walk along the Old Causeway Tramway track to the Giant’s Causeway and continue along the cliff path along the top of the Causeway and descend via the Shepherd’s Steps to walk the lower section of the Causeway and return to Portballintrae via the coastal route around Runkerry.
Bring a packed lunch and wear walking shoes or boots and wear appropriate clothing for the weather. This walk will be approximately 12 kms long if you are walking the full distance so or 6 kms if you are at the Causeway car park. There will be toilets at the Car park in Portballintrae and at the Causeway.
We will be back at the car park at Portballintrae at 4.00pm approximately.

if you are attending this trip. Let us know if you are joining in at the starting point or later in the day. We could give a lift back to the Causeway car park if some people wanted to start later in the day but walk round via the coastal route past Runkerry House.
