Explore prehistoric axe heads and the geology and archaeology of Co. Antrim in a talk by Ian Enlander (Belfast Geologists’ Society). Ian will be accompanied by Heron archaeologist Maia Giles who will talk through the manufacturing process of stone tools and their uses, with a special focus on Neolithic mace heads. Dr Rebecca Enlander (Historic Environment Division) will be on hand to demonstrate real Neolithic axes and other stone tools.
Discover how porcellanite formations at Tievebulliagh and Brockley, together with our abundant flint, were used in the Neolithic period, and view a collection of Irish stone axes, including polished porcellanite and flint tools
